So it's 2016 and you made the resolution to see your friends more and to spend more time with your family. To go out more and to stay in less. I know that these are some of my goals for 2016. I want to fill my life with people and experiences and spend less time on my couch watching Netflix.
But sometimes you just need a bit of time to yourself.
So, here is a list of 6 things that you can do by yourself, when your significant other is out of town (or any time you're at home alone, for that matter).
- Take a nice long bath
Remember those 10 Mindful Minutes I mentioned before? Take some time to just be with yourself. To shut out the outside world and to shut off your brain for awhile. Relax, take some deep breaths, get back in touch with yourself, your needs and desires.
- Plan the upcoming weeks meals
I find immense calm in preparedness. I love to do my grocery shopping for the week all at once and I love to have meals planned so I know I'm eating well and not wasting (more on meal planning next week!). Take some time while you're alone to write up a grocery list and plan your healthy meals for the week.
- Read that book you've had on your nightstand for months (or in your Kindle)
We all have one, the book someone recommended or got us that we just haven't quite cracked open yet. Well now is the time! You're alone, it's peaceful and quiet and you have nothing you HAVE to be doing. Read that book, if it was recommended or if you downloaded it to your Kindle because of it's great reviews, it's sure to be worth the read.
- Try a crazy tutorial!
Get on YouTube and find a tutorial for something you've always wanted to do. For example, Nicole can't braid her hair, I think she should try to watch a tutorial on that and learn because WHO CAN'T BRAID THEIR HAIR?! If you can braid your hair like the majority of us, look up a tutorial on another topic. This site has some of the best YouTube Tutorials (like origami Yoda, folding a t-shirt in 2 seconds, and learning how to Dougie, all respectable goals, obviously).
- Clean out your closet
Or your sock drawer, or your desk, or your pantry. Whatever you have been feeling is a little out of control recently, take 30 minutes to clean it out. I can't even tell you how many pairs of socks I have that I do not need anymore or how many cans of tuna are in my pantry or salad dressings are in my fridge (that are probably expired). There is something so satisfying about tackling an organization task and then immediately seeing the fruits of your labor.
Okay, so you probably aren't all bloggers, but if you are, when you're home alone next take some time to "batch blog". Batching your writing can be so beneficial and such a time saver. Be it about one subject spread over several posts, or all your posts on a range of topics for the week, it's so productive and so helpful! Here is a great post from The Sits Girls on Batching.
So there you have it, 6 of my recommendations for what you can do when you're home alone. I personally love to be productive and check things off of my to-do list.
What do you like to do when you're home alone? Is it purely relaxation time for you? Time to catch up on your guilty pleasure with the Bachelor or Real Housewives? Or, do you prefer to check things off your list and prepare yourself for the days ahead?
