Yesterday Samantha kicked off the week with a little Motivation Monday and today I am going to continue our week of fitness fun with a transformation Tuesday…ish. Okay, so I am not actually going to be showing you any before and after pictures, but I will be going through an essential ingredient of my fitness journey that will lead to many Transformation Tuesday's in the future, and that is working out outside of the gym.
Before you decide this post is not for you (because you have a gym membership or you simple just hate the idea) let me ask you this:
How many times have you skipped working out because you did not make it to the gym before it closed?
Or even better…
How many times have you skipped working out because you did not feel like going to the gym?
If you are anything like me the answer to the questions above are "more than once". Life is crazy - sometimes you work late, sometimes traffic is hell, and sometimes when you are really lucky you live about 22 miles outside of the nearest city - meaning if you wanted to go to the gym that you would have to drive just about 30 min each way… as if getting your ass to the gym is hard enough just add 22 miles of excuses! It would NEVER happen.
Now enter at home fitness.
There are hundreds of at home fitness solutions, but today we are just going to go over several free at home workout options to help keep your fitness journey alive, even when your desire to go to the gym is fleeting.
Option # 1: Go outside!
Even if you cannot make it to the gym you can still hit the pavement. Go for a run, try a new hike, or take your dog for a walk (and if you do not have a dog feel free to exercise one of mine!). Even if it is rainy out try to get out there and go for a run anyway - there is nothing like running in the rain!
Option # 2: Get Online!
If you are reading this blog than you already know that the internet is a pretty nifty tool. Just like there are about 1000 blogs to help you decorate your house or build a website, there are about 1000 sites out there dedicated to getting you in shape, at home, FOR FREE! The image above is from one of my favorite sites - Fitness Blender. This site has an amazing library of intense workouts for you to pick from depending on what you want to workout that day and how much time you have to dedicate! However, if Fitness Blender is not your thing, than take it to YouTube! Type in whatever workout you are looking for (Barre, Pilates, yoga, cardio, etc.) and try one out! It is so easy it is hard to come up with excuses not to do it...
Option #3: Body Weight Exercise
No weights? No problem! Some of the best exercises fitness has to offer do not need any equipment at all (insert: the burpee)! You can find countless body weight exercises on Pinterest, but one of my all time favorite sites is without a doubt HasFit.com. K introduced to Coach Kozack when I told him that I was tired of running and wanted to build some muscle, but did not want to pay for weights or a gym membership. I was very reluctant to try any of these videos because I thought K was crazy and that I would never be into these type of workouts… after 1 week I was addicted. Coach K is INTENSE but effective - if you want to challenge yourself and see results try any one of Coach Ks workouts immediately or even check out his 30 day or 90 day fitness programs!
And there you have it - three options for you to implement TODAY! I know starting something new can be intimidating. Believe me when I tell you the idea of workout out from home was daunting when I first started this journey. I did not think I had the discipline or the motivation to keep up the work - but once I started utilizing the resources listed above I could not believe how easy it was! Working out is never easy, but you can absolutely make it more convenient and fit your lifestyle.
