A purger of things, that is. I like to give things away. Lots of things. That's not to say I'm a minimalist by any means because most things I give away have already been replaced by new items, but I give away none-the-less.
I go through my closet practically weekly to find additional pieces I can give away. Part of this stems from my total lack of storage space, and part of it stems from the stress I get seeing items I paid for and never wear sitting in my closet. You may say, 'Well, Samantha, why don't you just wear those items rather than buying new ones and getting rid of those practically new shirts you never wore?'. And that would be a valid question, but my answer would simply be... 'because I don't like those shirts and shouldn't have bought them in the first place'. And back to the tossing we go.
I haven't actually read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (but I just Googled it to make sure I had the title right, and they have it as an audio book which seems more appealing to me for some reason - so maybe!). However, I've had lots of friends read it and go through their house diligently cleaning and tossing things that don't bring them joy. I feel like that's the main theme of the book 'if it doesn't bring you joy - toss it', so I've been working on that. A bit. For instance, after Christmas - anything I received that wasn't returnable and didn't bring me joy went immediately into my give away pile. I didn't even attempt to store it to then just toss when I find it when we move next. I just donated it in hopes that it will bring someone joy, even if that person isn't me.
Another example? I registered (wedding registry) for things we already have, but I registered for nicer versions of those things and I'm literally anticipating the day that I get to donate all the crap we will soon have duplicates of. I look forward to it!
Anyone else out there get an extreme amount of joy out of just getting rid of things? What are some other areas of your house that you purge regularly? I'd love to have more to go through and organize and trash!
